Control Wiring

Recently there are many cases of aircon wiring broken or faulty after a few years of installation.
This will lead to aircon not being able to function and owners have to replace their wiring from the blower to the compressor.
In some cases, the wiring is already hidden inside false ceiling or built in cabinets.
Imagine the trouble you need to go through just to replace the faulty wiring.
This is mostly caused by poor quality materials used during the initial installation.
Wiring is as important as the grade of copper piping used.

From the indoor units (Fancoil) to the outdoor unit (Compressor)
Min should be 3c40.
This means there are 3 cord of rubber enclosed wire, each with min 40 strands of copper wire inside.
If they use 4c40, means there is an extra cord for next time backup, in case one cord is faulty in future.
If they use 3c70, which means there are 70 strand of wire inside, this is even better but usually you have to top up a bit of $ for this upgrade as the material cost is higher.

The brand of the wire matters a lot.
Do try to avoid brands made in erm.... u all know. PR*.
Local brands like Keystone & Tai Sin are known to be reliable.

I will advise all owners to confirm the brand of the wiring used by your aircon installer before committing to the purchase.
If budget permits, do consider an upgrade to the 4 cord or 70 for long term usage.

2x units of my aircon broken down recently due to the wiring issue... and the installer wanna charge me $240 for relaying the wire.. i felt disgusted as i still need to pay to my carpenter to hack my wardrobe etc as all my wiring are concealed!! Do you think we can approach CASE for such case? since it is very obvious i was given an inferior product.

If it is within 12 months warranty (usually), the installer should replace the wiring for you FOC.

I ran a water pipe under my home and it took a lot of work. Its finally done though and I am glad that its over. I can't imagine what I would do if I had to install it again.

One of my LG aircon unit is faulty, It just shut down in few minutes once we start.

One of local technician told me that it is faulty PCBA problem and that need to be replaced while LG service specialist said that control wiring for that unit is broken and need to be replace.

I do not know which version of diagnosis I should believe, Do you guys have any idea ? my faulty aircon unit is flashing LED code C5(five time blink) continuously.

Is changing control wire is easy process ?

My house aircon wiring was using 40-strands and the blower in living room and study room broke down 1 month apart due to wire fault. If only I knew about the importance of wiring earlier.

Hi Aircon Guru

I’m sending this to just ask for your help and opinion. 2 days back I got a company to check my aircon unit as it is not cold.

My landlord was at home and then the technician said that the wire is damaged and the other unit als about to be damaged, so if change 2 wires, will charge us just $150 each, total $300.

The wire is from FCU to CU. It’s very expensive and they said they showed my landlord the wires but she also don’t really know how to see the damage and it’s not thrown away.

Today the technician called me as I questioned them for more details etc but he just said that the wire inside were copper mixed with aluminium and not 100% copper so can be spoilt easier. Now changed to 100% copper.

As we are laymen, we would like to know is that possible and are the charges reasonable? Or could the units just be choked after not servicing for some time?

Hope you can help me with the enquiry. Thanks!

Jessica
